Quick answer: Monument, Woodland Grey, Surfmist, Basalt and Shale Grey are the most popular Colorbond fence colours in Perth. Dark greys suit modern homes, and light colours stay cooler in our summers. Standard colours sit in my base price. Premium colours cost a little more per metre.
G’day, Bobby here. I’ve fitted Colorbond fencing across Perth since 2019. Colour is the fun part of choosing a fence, but it’s also the part that makes people stall. So here is the short version.
I don’t know of an official Perth sales chart for Colorbond colours. So I built this list from national popularity lists and the jobs I installed.
The 5 most popular Colorbond fence colours in Perth
| Colour | Look | Works best with |
| Monument | Deep charcoal | Modern homes, light brick or render |
| Woodland Grey | Dark grey with a green tinge | Gardens and leafy blocks |
| Surfmist | Soft white | Light roofs and coastal homes |
| Basalt | Mid-tone grey with a cooler feel | Homes where Monument feels too heavy |
| Shale Grey | Light grey | Neutral homes and light roofs |
Monument, Woodland Grey and Surfmist also appear first on Dulux’s list of popular exterior colours. You’re in good company.
Do premium colours cost extra?
Yes, a little. Standard colours sit in my base price of $110 + GST per metre, supply and install. Premium colours add a small amount per metre.
For example, a 20-metre boundary fence at 1.8m starts at about $2,200 + GST in a standard colour. Soil, access and old fence removal change that number. I break it all down in my Colorbond fencing cost guide.
How to pick the right colour for your place
Compare the greys outside
Monument, Basalt and Woodland Grey look like triplets on a brochure. However, they look very different in real sunlight. Hold a sample against your house in the arvo, then decide. A side-by-side guide for these three is coming soon.
Match your roof, gutters and house
First, check your roof, gutters and fascia. A Monument fence next to a Surfmist roof looks sharp. Also think about your gate, because Colorbond gates come in colours that match your fence.
Think about Perth’s sun and coast
Dark colours hold more heat than light ones. So a Monument sheet feels warm to touch by 3pm in January, and the Freo Doctor only helps so much. Light colours like Surfmist stay cooler.
Near the coast, in suburbs like Scarborough or Alkimos, you need to watch the warranty. Properties within about 1km of the coast need corrosion-resistant fixings to meet the BlueScope warranty conditions.
Match an old fence
Colorbond has updated its range over the years, so an old fence may not have an exact twin. Send me a photo of your fence and we’ll work out the closest current colour.
Remember both sides look the same
Colorbond looks identical from your yard and your neighbour’s. That means you can’t pick a different colour for each side. Chat to your neighbour first, because they’ll look at it every day too. If you’re sharing the cost, read my guide to the Dividing Fences Act in WA.
What is in the official Colorbond fence range?
The fencing range includes Surfmist, Paperbark, Evening Haze, Dune, Jasper, Shale Grey, Woodland Grey, Ironstone, Monument and Basalt. However, the range changes over time. So check the full chart on the Colorbond fencing page, then ask me which colours my supplier has in stock.
FAQ
What is the most popular Colorbond fence colour?
Monument, Woodland Grey and Surfmist lead the popular lists. Basalt and Shale Grey follow close behind.
What are the trendy fence colours for 2026?
Neutral greys and soft whites still dominate popular colour lists. So I don’t expect a big shake-up this year.
What is the best colour for a fence?
It depends on your house, roof and neighbours. If you’re stuck, a mid-to-dark grey like Basalt or Woodland Grey suits most homes.
Can I have a different colour on each side?
No. Colorbond looks the same on both sides of the fence.
Does colour change the price?
Standard colours sit in my base price. Premium colours cost a little more per metre.
